December – Wrapping up Another Year

December 12, 2009

I have one last performance this year:

Sixth Wave is back at the Coffee Gallery in Altadena on Tuesday, December 15 along with the a cappella quartet Just 4 Kicks! We’ll be doing our randomized set list again, which was a big hit with our audience last time and a great way to do a relaxed, intimate show.

At the end, each of us in both groups will open a sealed envelope to reveal a top secret arrangement by Randy Crenshaw that we will all sightread and improvise on together! We are also premiering a brand new arrangement by Greg Whipple of “Summer Sun”, originally performed by Koop, a Swedish electronic jazz duo.

Into the future…. Sixth Wave is in Chicago in April and St. Louis in May….
Beethoven’s Wig has two shows in Pleasanton, CA, on March 4 & 5, 2010…. more on these soon!

November – Two L.A. Area Shows Coming Up!

November 12, 2009

Well, no new shows on the schedule, but the first one is this Saturday!

I’ll be performing with Beethoven’s Wig in Torrance on November 14:
Torrance Cultural Arts Center
The conductor is Frank Fetta, who has lead many orchestras in Southern California and Nevada. I’m looking forward to finally working with him.

Still continuing:
I’m in the a cappella off-camera bumpers on the TV show “Glee!” , and have, with fellow session singer John West, published a new guidebook on how to be a session singer in Hollywood: Get it (or a free sample chapter).

I got to do a wild, crazy, big-production live show recently, and here are some fun photos from what turned out to be an incredible experience!

9 of us were upstage center on this platform:

It felt kinda like this:

Here’s my view of the back stage area from my music stand:

The conductor there is Bob Krogstad, who also did the arrangements for this monumental tribute to Hollywood that we performed.

Sandi Patty was one of the several amazing performers, and the one we all got to really meet. Others who graced the stage to speak or sing were Gladys Knight, Peabo Bryson, Debbie Reynolds, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, along with dozens of dancers and a full orchestra. What a treat! This was all for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Nuskin company.

September: Singing with the Stars

September 22, 2009

One of the greatest pleasures I have in my musical career is working with the most talented people in the world! Here are a couple of them that I have had the honor of singing with recently:

Danny Elfman, on the score of the upcoming film Wolfman:
elindanny

Josh Groban, who’s just started working on his next CD, and had a 6-voice group of us gals in for one number so far:

August: zzzzz

August 18, 2009

I don’t have any new upcoming performances to report!

*yawn*

Guess I’ll get busy with my writing projects… oh… and celebrate my 50th birthday on the 29th!

Watch for “Glee!” in September… and I hope to have more to list then!

Performances coming up:

On February 20, Beethoven’s Wig performs in Thousand Oaks. I am the resident Diva! Click here for details! Shows are at 9:30am, 11am, and 6:30pm and also feature tenor Jonathan Mack as well as the creator, Richard Perlmutter.

On March 20, Sixth Wave performs in Edmonton, Canada for ChoralFest.

Our latest CD, “Happy Madness”, is available either through CDBaby, which also has digital downloads, our website, and soon to be on iTunes with the first two CDs.

Further into the future:
April 18 Beethoven’s Wig inTexas
April 23 Sixth Wave in Greeley, Colorado
Memorial Day weekend in Nashville, TN for the release of my geocaching book at a big, big geocaching event, Geowoodstock
June 14 Beethoven’s Wig in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Meanwhile, you can hear me on upcoming commercials for Lexus and Cocoa Puffs, the latter being a cartoon opera, and on the score of “Race to Witch Mountain.” I’m on this season of “10 Items or Less”, currently airing on TBS. Each season is funnier than the last, and my off-camera ooh-ahhs are the signature Greek chorus. I got to sing a parody of the song “Car Wash” for one episode – way too much fun!

October brings hot weather and hot gigs

October 27, 2008

Los Angeles is having a typical fall: warm and sunny! Well… OK, that’s typical weather here most of the time. Ha!

Sixth Wave has finished our new CD, Happy Madness, and our release party is Nov. 3 in Hollywood:
We’d LOVE to see you there and hope you’ll make a reservation (if you haven’t already) since the seating is limited in this wonderful venue! In addition to performing, there’ll be games, giveaways, and a special election eve discount on the CD itself. For out-of-towners, we are now taking pre-orders. Just click here or go to the “Hear samples!” page on our website – Sixth Wave site – to hear clips and be the first to order!

Here are the party details…

We’ll be performing at 8:30pm.

Valet or street parking available

In other news:
You can hear me on an upcoming episode of “Cold Case” singing the Habanera from Carmen. I’m the off-camera voice of the on-camera actress.

I also got to sing on the score for the upcoming Star Trek movie, just choir this time, and we all sang the the original theme together. Other than that, I know nothing at all about the film, but I’m really excited to see it.

Speaking of Star Trek, I made a couple of surprise appearances (surprises to me too!) with Clay Jenkinson at his performances in Seattle. From his sublime portrayals of Oppenheimer and T. Roosevelt, we went to the ridiculous, when he asked me to sing the original theme from Star Trek, inspired by the gift of a Captain Kirk shirt from a mutual friend.

Clay’s personal recreations of historic characters are outstanding, and his observations of current events are astute and refreshing. I recommend a listen to his “Thomas Jefferson Hour”. More information on him can be found at his website .

OH – here’s my high note:

September 30 Update

September 21, 2008

Here’s the time and place for Beethoven’s Wig in Bishop on September 30:

September, the fall falls upon us

September 20, 2008

I don’t have the pertinent details of my next performances, but I will post them as soon as I do. Meanwhile, here are the dates:

At the end of this month, on the 30th, I’ll be performing in Bishop, CA, with Beethoven’s Wig.

Looking ahead to October, Sixth Wave will have our next CD done by the end of the month and will hold a CD release party at mBar in Hollywood on November 3.

Sixth Wave is also singing in San Luis Obispo on the 7th of November.

You can hear me on silly opera radio commercials for Marshalls soon, too!

August, time to sing Christmas music, of course!

August 19, 2008

This month, I did backgrounds and a small solo on the upcoming Christmas album for Paul Potts, a recent winner of “Britain’s Got Talent”, and also on the pre-records for Universal Studios/Japan. It just doesn’t seem like summer without some holiday cheer!

The gals of Sixth Wave (Cindy Bourquin and Jennifer Barnes) had the honor of singing as a trio for an orchestral flamenco album for the incomparable Vince Mendoza. It was a fun challenge to sing something so completely different.

Those that purchase a Pioneer TV in the near future will hear me in the demo mode singing some ethereal and odd operatic-type stuff over a wild visual collage.

“Beethoven’s Wig 4” has just been released. It features various styles of dance music, from minuet to march, as well as one of my favorites, “Beep, Beep, Beep.” Look for it on amazon.com! We’ll be performing selections from all four CDs in Bishop, CA, on September 30.

Sixth Wave is set to complete our next CD in the coming weeks, and we should have it out by October. Our next performance is in San Luis Obispo on October 7.

Enjoy what remains of the summer!
